31 Years With a Crazy Man

Todd’s Note – 31 years ago today (4.18.1987), I married up – way up.  I can not express how blessed I am.  So, today I have my beloved as a guest blogger.  I am looking forward to her upcoming blog postings in May.

Yesterday, I walked down the aisle to meet my husband and begin a chapter in our lives as husband and wife. As I ponder the past thirty-one years, it has truly been a life of adventure, amazement, and anticipation. We have experienced highs and lows, joys and sorrows—together.

Life is full of adventure. In my mid-teens, I knew I was called to marry into ministry. My husband is the son, grandson, and nephew of preachers, plus his siblings serve in ministry. We have had the privilege of living in Texas, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, Louisiana, and back to Texas. God has allowed me to see His love through lives changed by the power of Christ, broken relationships restored, and movements of God. Yes, this life is truly rewarding with my crazy man.

Life is full of amazement. God continually amazes me through His creation. Todd and I spent our honeymoon in North Carolina. As we entered the foothills of Asheville, North Carolina, one early morning, I was a wide-eyed child because I had never seen real mountains. A few years later, we returned to the east coast near the mountains and the ocean so we could be more amazed.  And, like so many couples, we experienced loss by miscarriage. Later, we experienced a miracle of God through the birth of our son, Calvin. Though I personally experienced deep loss through the miscarriage, God continues to amaze through Calvin’s precious life as He works in his life. We have experienced the loss of loved ones and dear friends as well.  Each time, we have seen God display His love and goodness.  This life is truly amazing with my crazy man.

Life is full of anticipation. And so we enter our next chapter. We are in transition, waiting for the ministry God has for us next. We trust Him for our every need, as we walk every step. We minister to one another and others as God directs. Recently, Todd has revived his blog, “Muddy Shoes.”  Amusingly, God has impressed upon me to do the same. So, in May, I will introduce “Connections2Excellence,” which will focus on connecting life to a pursuit of excellence. As Paul says, “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:14). I am so glad that I get to live this life with my crazy man.

What advice would I give to other couples? Marriage takes three: Husband, Wife, and Jesus Christ. Having a relationship with Christ is vital. Three words that have kept Todd and I together: “No Way Out!” Through the ups and downs of life, we all need someone to share life.
