How to Defeat Temptation

Here it is. A sure fire, ten step way to overcome anything that is pulling you away from doing what is right. Just click this link _______ and you will be directed to my website where for $29.99 I will share with you what to do. For $49.99 I will make it only five steps. (Note, there is no link and there is no website and there is no product for sell by me. But, if you want to send the money anyway, PayPal accepted … lol)

We all have things with which we struggle. Pride, anger, addictions, lust, laziness, greed, envy, food, and on and on. We may blame it on the Devil … aka Geraldine/Flip Wilson’s The Devil made me do it excuse. We might blame it on circumstances. Or, we might blame it on our own weakness. And all three may have a place at one time or another.

Paul, the man himself, said he did the things he didn’t want to do and didn’t do the things he wanted to do … a very familiar mantra by so many.

So, what do we do? The issue deserves so much more then this small one day blog. But as I spin this around in my grey matter, there are a few truths I hold on to. Let me give a few thoughts.

First remember grace. Realize He still loves us when we do blow it.

Nothing we ever do will make Him love us any less, and nothing we do will ever make Him love us any more.

Second, stay in the Word. The Bible is full of strategies, encouragements, wisdom, and more … so stay in the Word.

Thy Word have I hidden in my heart that I might not sin against Thee. – Psalm 119.11

And third, be real hungry and thirsty. You must realize you need to have such a desperate desire, a deep longing, and an all encompassing thirst for righteousness. If you truly desire living right for Him, a desire that is overwhelmingly deeper than anything else, then temptation will pale in comparison. It won’t go away, but it will be easier to kick to the curb.

As the deer pants … so my soul longs for Thee. May I keep that at the front of all I do.
