The Ordinary … The Orchard … Public Lands … Perfect Donuts … AND Mt. Pleasant. A good day.
It’s Monday, and I am supposed to be off. Rarely do I take the day; but today, after I finished some paperwork, I headed north. I forewent breakfast in hope to have a hearty lunch at the almost 250 year old Michie Tavern and Ordinary (eatery) in Albermarle County.

This has always been a delight with chicken, beans, mashed ‘taters, biscuits and more. It’s all you can eat and do not go if you’re on a bird’s caloric diet (so I went alone without my sweet sparrow of an eater wife.) The patio seating gave a great breeze as I dined under the limbs and great light to study some.

I skipped the desert so I could go next door to the Carter Mountain Apple Orchard to grab two slices of their world famous Apple Pie.
Wonderful view. Delightful dining. Beautiful.

While in the Charlottesville area, I hit the new store Public Lands … Dick’s Sporting Goods answer to REI. Great brands, wide selection, very spacious. With DSG acquiring MooseJaw, they are truly investing in the outdoor sporting world.

And to my delight, they were right around the corner from Krispy Kreme. And after my dragging in church event, I figured I owed someone some donuts. Not sure, but they may be the perfect donut. To my dismay, there were no ‘hot & ready’ … sadness.
A road trip is not complete without a little outdoor trek. From Charlottesville, I headed southwest to Mt Pleasant for a short hop up to Cole Mountain via the Appalachian Trail.
This is a great hike, but you really need a vehicle with clearance to get to the trail head. Which my FJ provides.

I headed back to the FJ, drove back to the east, and enjoyed my apple pie.

Road trips are a great escape. A way to listen to music, enjoy windows down and wind blowing, taking in nature, and totally unplugging.
I need to do this more often. Maybe even on my next day off.
Where would you go on a one day road trip?
