What do you hold on to in your life? I did an inventory this week, not of my life but my junk.
I have several things that I know are just filling up space. And I am sure you do too. T-shirts that you’ll never wear again (do people care you have a Skillet Tee that no longer fits?) Socks that you’ll never wear (still waiting for the dryer to give up the matches you lost over the year.) Cookware (when you rarely cook.) I’m not a hoarder, nor do I want to be … but I do hold on to way too much.
Yet, today’s meandering is not about holding on to things like junk. Let’s meander at a little info on holding …
HOLD THE DOOR …
For a day in Your court is better than a thousand elsewhere, I would rather be a door holder in the House of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. (psalm 84:10)

WOW, serving in His Kingdom is better than anything else we could gain or even imagine. And the thing about door holding, you have to hold the door for other people … encourage them, invite them in, set an aura as they enter, and show that they matter. Not about what we want, but others.
HOLD THE LINE …
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:23)

Hold fast. No compromise. Not to the right or to the left. Stay true. This is more for you than others. It means ‘stay the course’ (think Mel Gibson in The Patriot) and that we remain vigilant. It’s also about not giving the Devil a foothold.
But it is for others as well. What we give in to a little, the next generation gives into a lot. What we are permissiveness about, our kids take to the next level. So Hold the Line! So by holding the line, we … Protect Them – Point the Way – Pump them up – Prepares them.
Which brings us to the next point …
HOLD THE WALL …
Therefore I will hedge up her way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, so that she cannot find her paths. (Hosea 2:6)

Okay, it’s a hedge, not a wall. But, it more about a guard rail, a wall that keeps them on path. This is different than hold the line, that’s about us. Hold the wall is about setting walls of protection around those we care for. Walls not only keep people inside the barrier, it keeps people and dangers out too. A good set of hedges sets boundaries and hindrances.
Hold the Door … serve others
Hold the Line … stay vigilant
Hold the Wall … show concern
So, my original question … What do you hold on to in your life?
