Outside. Outdoors is where I truly love to be. There’s just something about being stuck behind a desk, trapped inside a building, or just sitting inside a car while looking through the windows to outdoors that makes me want to get up, get out and get going.
it doesn’t have to be anything exotic like doing a deep woods trek and camp out or climbing Mount Rogers, the highest peak in the commonwealth of Virginia. Sometimes it might be something just a simple sitting on your porch, feeling the wind, listening to the birds and watching the tree sway.
Yesterday I got a text from a young man that sent me pictures of his adventures, reaching the Apex of the toughest hike in the state of Vermont. I’m not sure if he was bragging, or if he was letting me know how he shares a common thrill to get outside. Either way, I was happy for him, but yet had a sense of envy that I wasn’t there with him.

So today, I’m headed west towards the Blue Ridge Mountains. I have decided to get outside and take a hike. Unfortunately, the weather doesn’t seem to want to agree with me, as there are dense fog, heavy humidity, and threats of thunderstorms in the afternoon. I will not be deterred.
In my endeavor to get outside, I have decided that I’m going to hike every trail between Peaks of Otter and Humpback Rock. I’m not a really big thru hiker, but I do like to do great day hikes and short treks. Over the next several months, I’m going to do trail by trail, section by section, step-by-step, one venue at a time. Basically, I’m going to cover the George Washington and Thomas Jefferson National Forest.

I’ve journeyed all the trails on Skyline DRive south of Skyland in Shenandoah NPS, so this will pair up with that greatly.
This week, i will be sharing some “Let’s Get Out” adventures we can do right here in my little neck of the woods.
But for today … the mountains are calling and they are saying “Get Outside!”
What are you hearing?
