This week, we continued the challenge of the fact that living an unshakable life – is possible – when built on the UNSHAKABLE foundation of our God and His Word.
From this week – three takeaways.
First, apparently a lot of people think that the word ‘unshakable’ should have an ‘e’ after the ‘k’. Well, let me tell you, I questioned the same thing. Basically, the e after the k is the English (British) spelling. When we broke from the connections to Britain, Noah Webster advocated for a break in the American spelling of words. Letters like ‘u’ and ‘e’ were dropped in many words.
Interestingly, one website actually pushed for distinct definitions …
Unshakeable emphasizes unwavering confidence or belief, while unshakable often refers to physical stability or firmness.

But what do you do when you mean both? I am unshak(e)able in my use of unshakable and I stand unshak(e)ably.
Second … we have started a new texting platform and we now send out the sermon notes during the service itself. This means more work on my side, but well worth it. I also means I might I get the notes out through my blog. (Note – you can also listen to it – if you have trouble sleeping – at my podcast page, which has few podcasts and is mostly comprised of my homilies – done in my style – conversational exposition – go to my Libsyn page)
And thirdly, two words … CORAM DEO. Just read the notes …

NOTES FOR AUGUST 17, 2025
1 Peter 1:13-2:12
- UNSHAKABLE / CORAM DEO
- Living in light of the truth of this text, we are challenged to remember we have a living hope – an inheritance that is unshakable in a world on shifting sand
- I want today to challenge you to live “CORAM DEO”
- CORAM DEO … Before the Face of God / In the Presence of God
- “Live one’s entire life in the presence of God, under the authority of God, and to the Glory of God” ((RC Sproul’s definition)
- So today, we want to dig deeper into the life on UNSHAKABLE ground
- 1:13 – starts with ‘Therefore …’ building on the knowledge of the living hope, of our inheritance
- We move from ‘how we remain joyful’ to ‘how we remain pure in a corrupt society —— THIS IS WHAT WE FACE TODAY
- to live CORAM DEO, we do not isolate, but insulate from the corruption … this is how we do it … ((FIVE POINTS))
ONE — Have a Thoughtful Faith (v13) … mentally we gird up the loins (pull the toga up to leave one ready to run into action, into battle)
TWO — Rest in hope on the grace of God / Set your hope (v13) … actively waiting for God’s fulfillment in His promises, His grace
…. GRACE – God’s Riches At Christ’s Expenses
THREE — Be holy (v.15) … actively strive to live a holy life (many examples on how) and we do this because of the great price He paid for us to be holy
FOUR — Live as His child and in His presence (v 21, 23) … this is the essence of our identity
FIVE — Love one another (2:3 & 12) … we show the world, living as a child of God and letting them see the difference
CORAM DEO
… Life is different so see it differently and live accordingly
… “Live one’s entire life in the presence of God, under the authority of God, and to the Glory of God” – RC Sproul
