Road trip Fall ’25

I am about 24 hours away. I am packed but not loaded. I have laid it out and am ready to hit the interstate to my destinations … Teton/Yellowstone/Glacier. Montana and Wyoming – here I come.

I have hit some snags before I even pulled out of my little shire of Evergreen, VA. Badlands NP called me personally – personally. They called three days before I was scheduled to leave. They have cancelled my reservation for a cabin and gave me no options. No Badlands. No Wind Cave. No South Dakota.

So I went deep diving into options
– camping there? ha, not a big tent person, more into glamping.
– go nearby? defeats the purpose of staying in the NP.
– bypass? change my direction and plans.

I went with the latter – reluctantly. Badlands is one of my wife’s favorite spots. My route now will go south of them and head straight to the Tetons and then spend an extra day in Yellowstone as well.

The dilemma – the initial leg of the route is no longer 22 hours, but now 32 hours. Ouch. But you do what you do.

Distractions happen. And in the words of Gunny Highway – I improvise, adapt, overcome!

Another issue – though this is more financial. I would love to take my FJ Cruiser. It has Cruiser in its name. Voodoo Blue cruising the highways and defeating the off-road obstacles!! Here is a pic in the Badlands from a previous road trip.

But, I am taking my wife and her’s drives better and, more importantly, gets double the gas-mileage. So Subaru Crosstrek Sport – Going to the Sun Road, here we come.

I will share more along the way … but for now – engage.

And maybe, we will see some snow!
