For days, these goals have been to do something … pray, worship, focus, and so on. But here is a goal to stop doing something. We often allow habits or electronic devices or vices take our time. Call it diversions. Call it time drain. Call it whatever you want, but we regularly need to practice pruning our lifestyle to focus on the important issues that often get focus sucked away.
Don’t play games with this – it is important. I once had a friend who always fasted watermelons in January. His logic was that watermelons are out of season and to give them up really wasn’t hard to do. UGHHH. He misses the point.

So here is number seven …
7. Resolve to fast as a way of refocusing your heart
Fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline that helps us quiet distractions and heighten our awareness of God. By intentionally setting something aside, we create space to depend more fully on him and listen more closely to his voice.
Practice: Choose one intentional fast this month, whether from a meal, social media, or another daily habit. Use the time or attention you’ve freed up to pray, reflect, or simply sit with God.
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
