Okay, we are a little over one week in. Have you done okay? have you already broken whatever you said you weren’t going to break?
Me? I adapted. I was going to do this blog every day, but I decided to forego weekends. And not only that, next week (hopefully), my wife and I will be headed to Dallas/Fort Worth to welcome the newest Estes into the world. Oh yeah, expect some posts on that. But doing it while all that is happening will be a challenge.
I looked up “reasons we fail to keep resolutions … and to my dismay, many were very esoterically, kind of brain games that really didn’t get through my thick skull …
– Change your perspective and consciousness.
– Have an identity shift (Like what? What does that even mean – think of myself as an intergalactic traveler from Vulcan? Maybe I watch too much Star Trek).
– Overcome your underlying barriers like abandonment issues.
I’m surprised they didn’t go Freud on me and blame my mother. After all, my mother loved me and I was her favorite. But not everyone can say that.
But I did get a few good words …
- Accountability – So true, we need others to encourage us and spur us on to good works. And, we need to do that for them.
- Manageable Sized Portions – Breaking large resolutions up into smaller, bite-sized portions help it be, well, manageable. So don’t write 500 words every morning, just commit to doing one day at a time.
- Specificity – Too often we fail for we put forth vague goals and dreams. You want to do a partial fast? Be specific, like no meals after 6pm or only one bag a chips a day.
- Measurability – Be able measure how well you are progressing. Attainable goals and measurable goals. Cut out food? than count your calories – very measurable.
- Don’t Surrender at the First Stumble – Most will blow it. I do. Determine to get back on the horse.

I don’t know where you are, but don’t give up. Keep on keeping on.
And if you do stumble, make it part of the dance!
