Road Trip Comments … On the Road
On the road again
I just can’t wait to get on the road again
Life I love is makin’ music with my friends
And I can’t wait to get on the road again
On the road again
Goin’ places that I’ve never been
I’m seein’ things that I may never see again
And I can’t wait to get on the road again
— Thanks Willie
Well, I do love to do a road trip. My body may not, but I do. And I get to spend some alone time with my sweet lovely. I feel sorry for her, she has to be with me.
They say getting there is half the fun. And then the other half is being there. That leaves getting back as pure torment.
GOING DOWN –
We took her car. I love the FJ, but it’s half the mpg and a little more ‘jarring’ for the passenger. Going down, great weather – cloudy, no rain, little traffic (until we hit Dallas), and very few police. We did hit a major shut down east of Memphis.
One weird thing I saw going down, a truck parking rest stop that was full of trucks. Why was that weird? It said it was closed. Why did they park where they shouldn’t have? I pondered this and realize I do this very often. We don’t like to be told – no. As a matter of habit, we tend to want to do something more if we are told we can’t. On my hikes … how often do I, I mean how often do “other people” ignore signs that say closed, or detour, or stay on the trail. I mean going off trail is quite a thrill. We live for a thrill of independence and rebellion.

Even in Dallas, the grandkids love me for I let them often do things that mom and dad told them “no” to … I claim ignorance or at least personal preference of grand-parenting. One of my greatest joys of grandparents is to vex the parents (can you say payback?)

Now, let’s look at on the road in the DFW metroplex –
Traffic, lots of traffic. And then, more traffic. Where I live, to have to sit through a red-light more than once is considered heavy traffic. How does a city have so many cars? Interesting fact about Texas, there are twice was many trucks registered as cars. I believe it.
I love living in a town with more cows than cars.
ON THE WAY BACK – ALL UPHILL –
According to the map, the way home is all uphill. Buccee’s seem to be further apart. Traffic slowdowns seem to be more prevalent. Police seem to be out more (not that I would break any laws – wink wink) – to my State Farm Agent friend who reads this, do not call my agent.
This road trip back did seem longer. Rain came down during most of it. We were fortunate to arrive after the snow finished and mostly melted off the interstates too. But it just seems so long, soooooo loooonnnggg.
FINAL WORD …
– Thank you Buccee’s
– Than you Cracker Barrel
– Thank you Google Maps warning notifications
– Thank you my wife for putting up with me
