Fly or Drive

Fly or Drive?

How do you make decisions?

Looking at a major trip this Fall. My wife and I will be headed to the Pacific Northwest to visit North Cascades NP – Mt. Rainer NP – Olympic NP.

As I plan, I am torn.

We can fly and spend a week there. Yes, rent a car – stay in historic locations – take the wonder of nature in.

OR …

We can drive and take two weeks. Stop along both ways at Arches NP headed out & at Bad Lands NP headed home. It adds a substantial amount of time but gives some sights my wife has never experienced.  We would still get the time in the Pacific NW. We also will stop in Montana and take in the Madison (just watched the new series and it made an impact.)

– Flying is only one weekend away …
– Driving is two weekends away thus more time away from the routines of life …

– Flying saves the amount of luggage we have to haul, but not a lot …
– Driving saves some money, but not a lot …

– Flying is less physically draining  due to less driving …
– Driving is less depending on others, more control over our itinerary …

– Flying would be non-stop, so no danger of missed flight since no lay-over …
– Driving gives freedom with our own car …

– Flying is less wear on the car …
– Driving means more time with my wife …

– Flying is 19 hours round trip …
– Driving is 90 hours round trip …

Fly or Drive?

So, we weigh the options. List pros and cons. Then I decide. Then, I wait for Lisa to decide, and always go with her way.  The husband always has the last word, “Yes Dear!”

I could really use your input on this one.
