Advice from Bob Marley

Learned some of that this week at the hotel where I work audit. I try to be professional, but also live the life of trying to show grace to those around us. Twice in three days, I was taken advantage of in a big way. The first was to check a young adult in with their mother’s credit card. It was the wee hours of the morning and I showed some grace due to the lateness. Well, quickly one turned to four guests. Still no problem. But the next day, I learned they trashed the room … broken picture, broken TV screen, walls were punched, etc. Why would they do that? Next day, again, very early in the morning, I let someone check in paying cash (policy is always a credit card) but my softness got tugged. 20 something women, said pregnant, traveling and said father had her credit card. The sucker born every minute was me. She ended up being ejected due to smoking (yes, pregnant woman smoking), arguing with management, and more.

Now, in both cases, I tried to be kind and show mercy. In both cases I was taken advantage of. In both cases, my management shared their displeasure with me (luckily still employed).

So again …

you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for.

Bob Marley hit it home. Yes, I’ve been hurt by friends, church members, family, coworkers, teachers, pretty much a lot of people. Yes, I’ve done my share of disappointing and hurting – friends, church members, family, coworkers, etc.

Bur I also look at Proverbs 27.17 – Iron sharpens iron. It may hurt to be sharpened, and it hurts to sharpen others; but like Marley said, you gotta find the ones worth suffering for.

Today, when you read this, I hope someone comes to mind that is that friend who is worth going through tough times for. That friend who will disappoint at times, but they will also help you be a better person and you help them be a better person as well.
