Space Oddity

We can find motivation in some of the most unusual places. One of the things that keeps me thinking of trying new things and exploring is the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. In pursuit of something, Walter experiences some amazing adventures. The adventures weren’t his goals, but they were the results of his pursuit to connect with a single person. How often do we miss the adventures we are already having just going through life. We don’t have to live in a make believe world. There is beauty and adventure right around us.

But it does take a little courage. A song that pops up in the movie is Space Oddity.

Ground Control to Major Tom. Take your protein pill and put your helmet on.

Ground Control to Major Tom, commencing countdown, engines on, check ignition, and may God’s love be with you.

This song is a challenge to bravery and exploration.

I recently have begun a new adventure in my life. I am in the single pursuit to serve the Lord. And along the way, there are so many exciting things. Unpacking items that prompt memories and they also propel me into the future. Seeing lives transformed. Witnessing a community that has come through tragedy. And seeing beauty all around me.

I don’t know how brave I am, but I do know I can trust the Lord every step of the way.

What is it that motivates you? What propels you through life?

Be strong and courageous. Know He is with you.

And along the journey, see the beauty and enjoy the adventure.

About Todd K Estes

In this journey called Life, it gets a bit muddy - But Jesus sees beyond the mud and sees the person He created, the person He loves, and the person He is still working on. I am one of those persons - and so are you. I am a sold-out follower of Jesus, husband way out of my league, father to a great son, part of the family of God, and pastor of a great church family - Evergreen Baptist in Appomattox.
