It goes back to filling out brackets with my father. We would cut the bracket out of the paper and fill them in – competing against each other. For the past few years, i took that tradition and applied it to my relationship with my son. Though now, we enter our entries through ESPN and the March Madness phone app. However, this year, it kind of fell through – I am at a new job 5 states away, and he has a new girl (yes, I will ultimately blame it on Tiffany).
This year had a personal connection, seeing my wife works at Liberty U. So I pulled for them over Va Tech – apparently I didn’t cheer enough – so next round I have to decide between Va and Va tech – I choose …. not gonna choose.
But my bracket is already busted – I rank like 18 millionth on ESPN. Life is like that. We plan, have traditions, lay it all out, have dreams, and yet … life happens – busted.
We need to know, even though this world may throw us a curve ball, we do not need to let it paralyze us – God is still on the throne.
Maybe it’s not something like NCAA but more like health, finances, career, and/or family. I am spending time in the book of Daniel. Can you imagine the earth shattering life changes they went through. Ripped from home – transported across the known world – sent to an indoctrination institution – told they would be there most their life – and probably never saw their family again.
Chapter 8 is a powerful chapter … even Daniel is rattled by the vision he is given. But you know how he responded – he went back to work. We need to know, even though this world may throw us a curve ball, we do not need to let it paralyze us – God is still on the throne. Walk in obedience, live in holiness, and do the work before you.
So, no matter who you are pulling for – next year there will be another champion. But in the Big Picture, there is only one champion – and His name is Jesus.
