Weird …. Me? You better believe it

Have you ever known one of those guys that seems to be in his own world? Mentally he does things a little different? And what he believes, well, that’s not the way most peoples’ minds work?

Have you ever met me? I am one of those guys. Yesterday, one of my church family posted on FB a praise, I think. They said that their pastor, me, is weirder than other pastors. Not smarter. Not a better preacher. Not wiser, cooler, better looking, or even nicer … just weirder.

Again, not sure if they meant that as a compliment but I’ll take it.

I think we should all be a little weird. The world has a way of thinking, a way of doing things. It puts forth statements like … the one with the most toys win … that if it feels good – do it … things make you happy … life only makes sense if I do it my way … and so on.

And I will admit that some things in this world might be wise (change your oil regularly, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, a penny saved is a penny … you get it.)

But normal doesn’t do it for me. I know their is something beyond this world, something beyond what we see and feel, and that something should what dictates our life. Well, not something, but someone. God.

And following God, doing things His way, and having real freedom to be the creation that the Creator created us to be … that’s powerful. But the world thinks it weird. It seems His ways are upside down …

  • to gain life, lose it
  • the meek shall inherit the world
  • bless those that persecute you
  • you have to have the faith of a child
  • you can’t earn His love, He loves you already, even in our messiness
  • And More

So, this Monday morning, I take my weird trophy and hold it high. What about you?

A great book that discusses the joy in weirdness is Craig Groeschel, Weird: Because Normal Isn’t Working … so I leave you with a few of his quotes

Don’t settle for a normal life. Not when you can enjoy the wonderful weirdness of being who God created you to be.

Normal just want cut it …

If you pour everything you have into this life, this world, which is temporary and fading, you’re jeopardizing your relationship with God, the only thing that’s eternal.

I am blessed, but also burdened because of it … and that is weird

God’s blessings, however, aren’t always bigger, better, and beautiful. In fact, I truly believe that God gifts His chosen leaders with a very unusual blessing. You might even call it a weird blessing because most of the time we call it…a burden.

And with us right next to Fathers’ Day …

The best thing you can do for your kids is to show them God working in you on a daily basis.

For clarity, my weirdness came forth in full creative moment as I did Children’s message … closing out series in Daniel, and promoting our VBS, Roar. I came dressed for the occasion.
