Today is historical. The transfer of power will be made official as the two new individuals take their oath of office and we begin a new 4 years of Presidential leadership. New chapter for our country is beginning.
We pray for the success of the nation, to practice the principle of equality that beholds the dignity of the individual and has a protective nature for the minority, and to live lifestyles of a justice that go beyond social and racial, but is biblical – seeing each individual as the creation of a loving and just God.
It is historic with the limited attendance and presence of our armed forces. It is an opportunity … to be used for the good of the nation, every one of us, or as a catalyst for more division and disharmony.
As a part of the inaugural display, and as a way to fill the empty National Mall, a tremendous display of flags has been put across the area visited by millions every year.
Numbering around 200,000 flags, each has been placed representing the people of the USA and her territories. Flags from Texas, Guam, Vermont, Colorado, Utah, Puerto Rico, Virginia, and even California. Mixed in the fields are flags with the 50 stars and 13 stripes as well. It’s quite a sight.
And then to add to the beauty, especially at night, 56 pillars of light are thrust into the sky to represent the states and territories.
As a repeat visitor to the nation’s capitol, I would love to see this display of art. And I pray it is more than just art, but symbolically shows we can be different yet be together, out of the many, one. And I also pray the lights challenge all of us to reach to the heavens for help, wisdom, guidance, and provision.
In the 17th chapter of Exodus, a name for God is given, Jehovah Nissi. Many translate this as the “Lord is my Banner.” As his people, we are to rally to him, follow his direction, see that his banner shows power, presence, and providence. He is here and we are his.
But we must keep our eyes on him, follow his banner, and lift it high to draw all men to him. And like the old camp song says, his banner over me is love.
God, bless our nation. God guide President Biden. Humble our nation draw us close to you. And as much as we might love our red-white-blue, we really only truly follow the banner of God, our Jehovah Nissi.
