A Wrong Way Story …

It was part of a road trip … the Big 5 in Utah.

After Zion, we landed outside of Bryce National Park. This was a delight. Though it took place in Spring, there was a late snow … a snow that put a fresh coat of white beauty across the landscape. After arriving in Bryce Canyon, we went to a convenient parking spot and headed out on the trail.

The problem, we went on the Peekaboo Loop Trail instead of the even closer Thor’s Hammer trail, which is where we intended to head.

It was the wrong way – but it was worth it. True, we expected a hike under a mile. True, we hiked over 7. True, we got our socks wet from the snow. True, we left the water in the Jeep. True, it was draining. True, my son (joining me on the Utah Road Trip) knew we were going the wrong way, but I was enjoying out too much, or maybe I didn’t want him to think he knew the way better than I did. But also true, We experienced Bryce Canyon in a greater and deeper way.

Upon return to the Jeep, we realized Thor’s Hammer was just 1/4 mile the other way. We made it, and by now, the snow was melting and the ground was no longer iced and covered … but muddy and slippery. So, I took the smirky looks from my only son, and we headed over to the Hammer.

Thor’s Hammer at Sunrise …

For a deeper dive into wrong ways, look at yesterday’s MuddyShoes Blog.

But today, I am asking, what is blessing you got when you went the wrong way?

What beauty did you experience when you came to understand you’re headed down an unexpected path?

When did you end up at a place you weren’t going to, but truly liked it?

Final Word – Pop Quiz? Here is a picture of someone famous … WrongWay Feldman. What TV Show did he appear on?
