I am close. My bones are shaking with excitement – or dread of the cost of gas, not sure which.
In only four weeks, I am headed from the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the following treasures …
three days in Bad Lands
visit Wind Cave and Rushmore
two days in Teton NP, at a cabin in the park
three days (more like 2) in Glacier National Park
– one night at Lake MacDonald and one night at Many Glaciers
On the way home – thinking of hitting Teddy Roosevelt NP, Indiana Dunes NP, Cuyahoga NP and maybe Devil’s Tower. Thinking 5,000 miles … in almost ten days … and my wife is with me most the way. No I don’t plan on leaving her there, though she might willingly stay in Jackson Hole. She will be flying to see the kids and grandkids after most the NP are hit. I think she is already planning on being tired of me.
Planning. Reservations. Entry passes. Equipment. Scheduling. So many things have to get done before we even go one mile.
I realize the they say the devil is in the details (especially Devil’s Tower) but details are important.
How many things in life do we fail to plan for … and then get surprised when it doesn’t go smoothly.
So many times, I have thought of getting ‘Muddy Shoes’ back up and running. But if I fail to have a plan – it will still be on my ‘to do’ list.
So here it is; and in the words of Hannibal Smith, “I love it when a plan comes together!” (OK, I watched A-Team recently)
Thank you for rejoining me and let’s rediscover some muddy shoes!

Headed back to this – wohoo!
