It’s time for some maintenance. Time for a piano tuneup. Time for a vehicle inspection and alignment. Thanks for those reminders. It’s also necessary to take care of regular maintenance for our musical instruments before a performance. It’s wise to make sure the vehicles are ready for that long road trip. Yes, it’s important to do the routine checks. Even regular physical checkups and adjustments must be made to contribute to overall physical health and wellbeing. How can these relate to excellence?In your stage of life, you may be trying to figure out your career path, entering your chosen field, or are a seasoned expert. You may have dreams and goals and do not know where to start. You may desire to try something different or sharpen your skills so you can proceed to the next level. What are some next steps? What are some ways we can sharpen ourselves for excellence? – Evaluate your interests. If you are trying to decide what jobs are best for you, there are many assessments available to help you discover what may be a great fit. For example, you may excel at math and problem solving. You may enjoy exercising your creativity through writing or the arts.* Meet with people who have experience in the field. They can provide great insight as to the pros and cons of the type of industry and the role. – Engage with a mentor or coach. Some organizations may assign a person to help you adjust and become comfortable with the role. A mentor or coach can be a great guide to help you reach your potential and excel in your pursuits.* Seek to gain experience from jobs, internships, or volunteering opportunities. If there is a role you would like to explore, ask your instructor or leader how you could gain experience to prepare for that role. They may assign projects to help you progress. – Complete the required education and pursue lifelong learning! – Form and build relationships. This is key to excelling and building your skills. It keeps you current on industry issues and your skills sharpened. Connections Challenge: If you are considering pursuing a field of interest, begin by laying out the steps to reach your goal. Talk to others for their wisdom and insight. Start small to learn and gain experience. Be intentional with continuous learning and sharpening your skills. |
