Yesterday, I shared of my journey to Lewis Ginter. After that, we headed over to another gardens area – Maymont Italian and Japanese Gardens.
This place is spectacular – lush green fields, open areas to play and let the kids burn that energy, an historic home that reminds of a year gone by, a wedding spot that just yells, “Take my picture!”, and a Japanese garden complete with Lillies, a grotto, cherry blossoms and more.

Years ago, I was asked to do a wedding at Maymont. What I didn’t know was there were two parts – the gardens and a zoo. I parked at the zoo – the wrong part. I had to quickly trek over a mile to get to the Italian Gardens. I arrived hot, sweaty, and achy feet (dress shoes do not work for quick treks). I made it though.

I also have fond memories of being at Maymont with my Mother-in-Law who spent time with her grandson. I could envision her in the gazebo watching our young boy rolling on the ground. Hmmm – kind of like the young kid I saw rolling on the ground at Lewis Ginter.

Memories. Locations hold more than what you see. they hold memories. This place, this picture of God’s artistic character, this glimpse of warmth, love, and art … is more than a spot on a map. It is a catalyst for making memories and a post-it for memories already made.

Make Memories.
