Road trip ‘26 – day 2

Question for today: If you could visit any state in the lower 48, which state would you love to drive through?

We continue on the road towards our first destination. We have traveled through Missouri and now we are on that never ending road of Interstate 70 through Kansas. I thought Tennessee was forever, but Kansas beats them hands down. I70 in Missouri and Kansas has constant lane closures, speed reductions, and 3 billion rumble strips. I’m glad our tax dollars are at work, but it seems that it’s doing nothing but adding delays.

We stopped at Chick fil a where I got to sample the brand new chicken and waffles sandwich. We had breakfast at Panera where Lisa ate the garden avocado egg white sandwich, blueberry muffin, and coffee. We just passed a Russell Stovers factory, and I’m wondering why I didn’t turn in.

Kansas is beautiful, albeit very flat. They have signs and locations connected to the Wizard of Oz movie like museums and even a winery. That might explain why the lion could never get up courage, too much of the bottle?

The new car is a blessing. There are obviously a few kinks that we’re trying to figure out. But in all of this, we trust God to get us safely to and from the West Coast.

Yesterday, I talked about wrestling with my wife. Though we haven’t had a chance to throw down yet, we have had a mental wrestling match as we have played Name that Tune with classic rock songs from the 70s and 80s. It has been quite humbling as I have been dominated by the music queen. I’ve come to discover over the years that she has had a lifelong crush Andy Gibb. I also think she knows every song by Foreigner.

I knew more about Credence Clearwater but she knew everything else. I may have to use Foreigner’s “I Wanna Know What Love Is.” She is truly the “Jukebox Hero.”

We will reach our destination around 11:00 Friday evening, and I’m excited to write more about what Moab, Arches, and Canyonland have to offer on this amazing journey.

Thank you to those who gave suggestions for the road trip playlist. Quentin, I’m not sure how to take the suggestion that Lisa should listen to Bad Company.
