Road Trip ‘26 – Day 4 (and Day 5)

How do I write about 2 days? We drove all of day 5 is how).

Question of the day …

For what is your state known?

We drove into Washington and saw bookoos of apple orchards. Bookoos.

I started thinking about that in relation to my home state (Commonwealth, that is) and I want your opinion on your home state.

Day 4 … Arches and more arches …

Rising early, we headed into Arches NP again. We headed straight to Delicate Arch Trail. And since early, there was parking. But what was full were the double digits on the thermometer. It felt in the 90s or higher before we reached the first mile. I’ve trekked this before and made it to DA, so there was pressure. But baby, I felt the burn today. This is early in our road trip, so we reversed direction … stoped at Wolf Farm and the petroglyphs … headed over to DA Viewpoint … and confirmed we’d rather see multiple stops (see yesterday’s question). So Jacqueline T … I’ll leave the long trail for you. Sharanda T … we agree on something … go figure.

We headed towards the back part of the park – Devil’s Garden. Hey, we did garden of Eden yesterday, so here we go.

Several pull out arches … but the one that was “ooh” and “aah” and “oh yeah”was sand dune arch. About 1/4 mile hike out, stuck in a canyon (?) between the fins rock formation … this arch’s trail floor was, you got it, a sand dune.

The hidden nature, the sand, the light from above, the narrow rock walls to squeeze between … made this Lisa’s fav arch of the park.

After more arches and the long drive back, we headed to town for pizza at Zax’s and gelatos at the food truck park.

We explored Moab, stopped at Moab Baptist Church, and headed back the glamp tent.

We did see an unusual store … time warp …

First, we did stop at Big Giants Dinosaur Park, but found nothing for the grandkids. Then we went to UtahRaptor State Park. Pretty cool. We learned they had a WW2 internment camp, but that’ll have to wait till next time.

Day 5 was a long haul to Selah, Wa. We got a room to crash and prepare for Mt Rainer National Park early tomorrow.

This trip leg was uneventful. Utah had some great spots. Idaho was boring. Oregon amazed me (we drove along the original Oregon Trail path!) And Washington was dark (didn’t hit state line till nightfall.) If you’re from Idaho, I apologize … so convince me I’m wrong.)

My lesson for today … from Sand Dune Arch … sometimes big blessings can be hiding in out of the way and unexpected places.
