WEIRD QUESTION of the day … Who is your favorite character from the “Fast and Furious” universe? Dom? Toretto, Shaw, Hobbs? Maybe Wonder Women turned roadster, Gisele?

Another day – another early rise and head out. Today, we got out before the sunrise, headed to the NE corner of the peninsula to catch a ferry across the sound. Port Townsend is a quaint little town – with a courthouse tower looking down over the town.

We lined up the car in our assigned lane 45 minutes before the launch and walked to the nearby cafe/bakery. Huckleberry Latte for the lady, giant pecan roll for me to partner with my hot cocoa.

These were wonderful treats as we rode

across the sound to Whidbey island at the port in Coupeville.

On the ferry, I took an opportunity to help two brothers. Which after the bad advise I gave yesterday, this was God’s way of showing grace. They were honoring their recently deceased father and I got to share a moment of compassion and tried to bless them. The ferry had many fond memories of being with their dad.

We arrived on the island and headed northeast. We were looking to see our 5th National Park of the trip … North Cascades NP.

This park – phenomenal .. rugged mountains, 500,000 plus acres. 300 plus glaciers, and 94% designated wilderness.

The western side smelled of a recent forest fire. Not too recent, but recent. You could see parts of the mountain side with charred spruce and alpines.  Interestingly, this visitor center was the busiest of all the parks I we had yet visited on this trip.

Highway State 20 goes all the way through the park from west to east. Vistas along the way allowed views … Diablo Lake, Trail of the Cedars, Skagil, and more. The says is Maple Pass is the trail to trek, but his was more quick pass through and that will have other be for the next time.

On the east side of NCNP, Hwy 20 goes through a National Forest and more. My favorite pull off spot was Washington Pass where you saw Liberty Bell Mountain to the south and Silver Star Mountain to the east. This trip has not had a shortness of awe inspiring viewpoints.

Just outside the wilderness acreage, we stumbled on to an old west town brought into the modern age … Winthrop. Saloons, horse hitching posts, and an ice cream store. We ate on the river patio and then got ice cream. No old west town is truly experienced without ice cream. She got Huckleberry and I got … Moose Tracks.

From here .. we headed east. Montana. 400 plus miles on I-90 … with 350 miles of that under construction. UGH.

We were headed to Rapid City … where Day Eleven awaits … Black Hills beckons.

This is our second and last through the night drive. And possible last forever when it comes to vacay road trip.

But I forgot the Fast and Furious connection. While stopped at the Lake Diablo overlook, there was a collection of eight cars that were decked out for road racing. As we descended the mountain pass, we were parked at a pullout vista. And then we heard it … Two of the decked out cars were headed down nose to nose … racing down Highway 20. It was just as if out of the movies. Drag race in the highland.

From the movie – not my trip

Cool! Idiotic as well! Dangerous! And very selfish. But, don’t we do the same at times? Don’t we sometimes we do what we want o do in spite of concern for others?

I hope I have grown and don’t do such idiotic things … but, oh well, I still have ways to go sometimes. Fortunately, grace is there. And mercy.

And you need to know, grace is there for you too.

Such is the lesson for the day.

I ask again …
