How Do We Bless the One Who NEEDS Anything?
God Bless You … Gesundheit … Sto Lat … Salud
We say different things when someone sneezes. There is a wide variety of reasons behind the tradition …
- might be the plague where people where wished health during the sneeze, which was an omen from the gods
- might be about the belief the heart stops and your can’t sneeze with both eyes open … the closest one come top death
- Might be because Pope Gregory I (in AD 590) giving a blessing during a plague
It doesn’t really matter your reason, but you probably do it. We want the person to have a healthy, positive turn of events.
Now something has made my brain wiggle. There are places in Scripture where we are to “Bless God.” How can we bless God? How can we want something positive to happen to the being who is … well … perfection.
I was reading Psalm 63 this Weekend, and verse 4 says …
So I will bless you as long as I live; … in your name I will lift up my hands.
Because of your steadfast love, because of your great grace, because of who you are …I will bless you.
How? How can anything I say or do add to Him and His glory?
Bottom Line … it can’t! Nothing I can do is anything He needs.
But we can honor Him. We can be obedient and faithful. We can strive to live the way He desires. I came across a list that shows this …
- Live in gratitude
- Walk in obedience
- Speak Words of Life to others
- Serve selflessly
- Worship wholeheartedly
- Seek His presence, daily
- Trust unflinchingly
- Walk Spiritually
Thank about this list. Which one might be the one you can do today? Which one, just one, can you work on?
Today … Let’s Bless Him!
