Velcro Bible Passages

One of my most appreciated graduate profs (Dr Sailhammer) shared the concept of Velcro Passages in the Bible. Basically, they are pages the canonicler put together to attach/create an adhesive bond between important sections of the Bible.

An example … the last chapter of the Torah to Velcro/attach to the first of Joshua. After all, few hold to the fact Moses writes about his own death.

This does not negate the inspiration of the whole canon. I think it adds to the cohesiveness of all the Bible. and it especially draws to the Canon as all one message.

In our Bible study yesterday, we looked at one of the Maginificent VII. But the movie, or movies, but the seven magnificent “I Am” declarations of Jesus in the Gospel of John.

We looked at the time Jesus declared, “I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life …” In John 14.

But also discovered the connection of this verse to the Velcro passage of Psalm 1.

Stay with me.

Psalm 1 is the introduction to the Books of Wisdom … Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and so on. 

And as we look at the first three verses, they interestingly sync to Jesus’s declaration

Psalm 1:1-3

[1] Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 

The Way —- caution on following the wrong way, so keep your eyes on Him. On what specifically? Look at verse two …

[2] but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 

The Truth —- His Law, the Word, Scripture.

[3] He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

The Life —- grounded, fed, fruitful, prospering.

This correlation is groves breaking. The beginning of wisdom literature talks of a way, of truth, of abundant life. And the wise person then sees the real connection to way-truth- life is to the person of Jesus.

To get this is a wise thing to get!!

So let me ask three questions …
