Sacrifice Musicians Because of Silly Love Songs?

It happened at age 14. The song stuck and it’s in my head all the time. They say that ones favorite music style is set around age 14. In that year, it was Paul McCartney and Wing’s Silly Love Song.

The opening lines …

You’d think that people would have enough of silly love song. I look around and see it isn’t so. Some people want to fill the world with silly love songs. And what’s wrong with that. I’d like to know!

Silly love songs. Great tune. I remember watching the NYC ball drop on New Year’s Eve and singing that song. Great time.

Two things are swirling in my mind today. First is a conversation I had with my son yesterday. He wants to get inked. (He’s plenty old enough and I have no problem with that). He wants to have the word ‘warrior‘ put on his body’s somewhere. He has only been married for three months but I think he is getting it. (Jk, I love my favorite daughter in law). He is seeing it from the point we all are in a spiritual warfare and he is a warrior of the Lord.

Second is a biblical concept. There is a weird point in scripture. In some of the battles recorded in the Old Testament, the leaders would often put music leaders and singers at the front of the line. Now, as a pastor, I saw that as making sure music leaders get hit early. Nah, not really.

It is more of a confidence in the fact that battle is the Lord’s. John Piper says spiritual worship and spiritual warfare should be carried out with singing. David calmed Saul’s soul with music. Paul and Silas sang in prison. The Psalms are stuffed with songs seeking help, guidance, strength, and more. We have praises, hymns, and thanksgiving.

So in 2020, I will commit to sing more. Learn new songs. Dig into the songs backstories. And choose to praise in song before all I do. Glorify Him in song.

I may not make a joyful sound with perfect pitch and America’s Got Talent level of expertise. But I will make a joyful noise. Maybe not a silly love song, but truly another song of praise. 2020 will be full of music. And that is something we all can do.

First on my list … Yes, I Will … by Vertical Worship. Check it out here.

Yes I will, lift You high I the lowest valley. Yes I will, bless your name

Yes I will, sing for joy when my heart is heavy. All my days, oh yes I will.

All my days, oh yes I will.

My first five of 2020 to do every day.

Day 5 … be a blessing to someone

Day 4 … let others see Jesus in you

Day 3 … sing more, it’s healthy (this entry)

Day 2 … power of staying positive

Day 1 … live with eternity in mind
